Directory of local groups/projects who are offering specific support during the current COVID-19 pandemic »

In line with Government advice, most groups and organisations in the city have had to take the unfortunate decision to suspend face to face and group work activities. Please telephone or email the contacts listed for the group or organisation if you are interested in their work to check what alternative arrangements might be available or to find out about alternative groups or services in your area.

As Scotland’s leading independent cinema, and a Europa Cinema Best Young Audience Award winner, Filmhouse is internationally renowned as a venue for dynamic programming and debate. Our key aim is to challenge, inform and entertain through the delivery of an essential, intelligent and enlightening programme for all audiences, whether through formal education, informal courses or professional development.

Our Schools programme offers year-round screenings for primary and secondary pupils, usually including supporting resources or discussion, all designed to support Curriculum for Excellence. Schools can also benefit from cinema tours, events linked to annual film festivals including Edinburgh International Film Festival, and advice and support for teachers and students of Media, Film, Modern Languages and other subjects. Filmmaking projects such as Understanding Cinema and the Edinburgh Schools Film Competition support and develop film literacy in schools and youth groups across Edinburgh and further afield.

Throughout the year Filmhouse offers evening courses, holiday workshops and one off events to support informal learning. Morning screenings can be organised for community groups. We also work with a range of partners to develop and enhance our extensive, dynamic programme, including Dyslexia Scotland, Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival and Refugee Week.

In partnership with Edinburgh International Film Festival, Filmhouse provide many professional development opportunities for filmmakers. From working partnership with the higher education sector supporting film and media students, to residential courses for established filmmakers, we endeavour to nurture filmmaking talent.

From birth to adulthood, we like to grow our audiences!

Tickets for schools screenings are £3.00 for pupils, and teachers go free.
