COVID-19 Service UPDATE...

Face-to-face events are currently suspended due to the Covid-19 measures.

While the regular on-site branch activities are suspended, Theiya Arts is running its weekly class online. This is a chair-based Yoga class which you can do from the comfort of your own home, and all you need is a chair.

The sessions are free, but as the Branch is supporting facilitators’ online work, you may consider making a donation to the Branch via our JustGiving page but please do not add Gift Aid as the Branch is not allowed to claim it where a service has been provided in relation to the donation. It would also help our Treasurer if you identified the activity e.g. Yoga for Parkinson’s.

Online Class day & time: Tuesdays, 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Online Platform: ZOOM. You can either access it on your computer (via the website www.zoom.us) or by downloading the App to your phone or tablet.

What kind of chair do I need? Chairs with wheels are not ideal since they are unstable, but almost any other chair will do. If you are on the shorter side, put some sturdy hardback books/box under your feet to give yourself a firm foundation. Avoid heavily cushioned chairs that you sink deeply into.

Do I need extra equipment? You don’t need any special yoga equipment or props for this class.

What will we do in the class? This style of yoga is movement-based. We focus on improving your range of movement (in particular in the back, shoulders, hips, and backs of the legs), improving muscle tone, developing better breathing habits, reducing stress levels, and generally giving you a good stretch.

Do I need to have prior experience? Not at all. The class is designed to be accessible to all, and modifications and adjustments are there for all movements. Yoga is a spectrum of possibility!

Weekly yoga sessions, specifically adapted for People with Parkinson’s run by a Theiya Arts/Sunshine Yoga collaborative and funded by the Branch. The class is upbeat, dynamic, and most importantly, fun, working according to individual capabilities.

Seated and assisted postures help make movements more accessible for those with limited mobility and/or any feelings of unsteadiness, while standing postures with wall, chair or prop support, can be incorporated
