information SERVICE DETAILS

Our Dads group meets online, weekly on Tuesdays 8:00pm - 9:00pm. It’s open to all Dads/male carers from Scotland who either has a child in the NHS Lothian’s Neonatal and Special Care Baby Units at the moment, or has had a child in the units in the recent past. The group is small, informal, confidential and led by staff from Dads Rock

Neonatal Dads! Free weekly online peer support

What is it?

A weekly, online space for dads who have/had babies in neonatal or special baby care in NHS Lothian. It will run for two years in the first instance with evaluation embedded into the process.

When will it happen?

The sessions will run weekly on Tuesday evenings with the first group scheduled to start on Tuesday, April 5th.

Why dads?

Initial scoping work identified a gap for support for dads both in terms of specific supports available and accessibility/uptake of the supports that are in place in the unit currently. Peer support for mums who are seeking a perinatal mental health group in Lothian is available via Juno.

Who provides it?

The service is a collaboration between NHS Lothian's Maternity and Neonatal Psychological Interventions service (MNPI) and Dads Rock, a charity devoted to improving outcomes for children by inspiring dads and families. Each weekly session will be hosted by a trained Dad's Rock facilitator who will receive regular clinical supervision from the MNPI clinical psychology team.

How will a dad access it?

Dads are given a QR code to link to the Dads Rock Neonatal Dads website page, or the email/phone number for Dads Rock. The Dads Rock team will share a link to the NHS Lothian approved video conferencing site and log-in details with potential participants. NHS Lothian's Information Governance processes have given approval to seek consent to share telephone numbers with Dads Rock on occasions when it may be helpful for a member of Dads Rock to first call the participant to tell them more about the group and encourage opt-in.
