COVID-19 UPDATE...

Following the Government guidelines we will continue to provide this service remotely throughout the current lockdown.

We continue to support children and their families remotely via phone calls and video calls whilst restrictions are in place.

We will not be able to run any groups in person but will run some of our groups via Zoom.

If you would like to make a referral to our services, please email duty@mcfb.org.uk and we will get back to you as soon as we can (within 2-3 days). Please note that waiting lists are in operation for many of our services, but we will endeavour to offer support where possible or make an onward referral where appropriate.

The 4Corners Project is for children aged 8 to 14 years (mainly BAME) who may be having difficulties due to experiences of loss, migration, language problems, racism, poverty, inadequate housing and social isolation.

We work with the children to:

- Improve their emotional wellbeing
- Reduce their social isolation
- Develop the confidence and skills they need to become more successful learners

We do this by working therapeutically with them in their homes, at school and at MCFB. This one-to-one support is a key element and involves play and life-story work to build confidence and help develop new strategies for communication. We also provide group work within primary schools to support children to make new friendships, develop social skills and experience new opportunities. These groups are very diverse in their ethnic make-up and aim to promote understanding of different cultures and improve race relations. The groups use sporting activities, particularly football, as a medium for participation and are supported by Scottish Football Association Equity coaches and parent volunteers, who were an important element of our earlier Football Initiative.

We also work with the parents to improve their relationships and communication with their children.

We provide practical and emotional support along with advice on parenting skills. Part of this work focuses on helping parents understand the different services in their community and helps them to engage more effectively with these services.
