Welcome to Greenbank Parish Church of Scotland, Edinburgh. We aim to be a friendly and outward-looking Christian congregation with a lively desire to love and serve God and our parish and community. We place a strong emphasis on the inclusion of children, youth and young adults within the life of the congregation. Our regular weekly worship combines with monthly and seasonal services, opportunities for learning and social activities to offer a welcome and fellowship to all ages. Whatever stage you are at in your faith journey, we hope that you will find us to be a family in which you can find a place to belong, to explore and to believe.
Greenbank is a thriving congregation in a pleasant suburb with over 800 members. We are financially stable, and have many organisations and groups attached to the church. We have had two long ministries with progressive and dynamic leadership, and now continue our development with our current Minister – the Rev Alison Swindells.
The congregation has always had a broadly inclusive theological ethos. It believes in the importance of the Minister preaching / teaching each Sunday, and that all the activities that happen throughout the week are a reflection of the faith expressed during worship. This ethos is central to its existence.
We place a strong emphasis on work with children and young people who are encouraged to see the church as a familiar place that is for them just as much as for adults.
Pastoral care is always important and in addition to the traditional system of Elders’ districts we have explored additional ways of caring for our people over the years.
We want ourselves to be seen as a place that can be a focus for the local community, and we have recently invested heavily in our halls to let us maximise our community involvement. In addition to providing a meeting place for local groups, however, we have a strong background of supporting work further afield, and during 2005 the congregation donated over £37,500 to Christian Aid and other charitable appeals.
You will find us at the corner of Braidburn Terrace and Comiston Road in the Greenbank/Morningside area of Edinburgh.
We are easily reached via public transport on Lothian Buses Nos. 5, 11, 15 and 16, plus buses to/from West Linton/Biggar.
