information SERVICE DETAILS

Help make our surfers experience in the waves unforgettable! Our volunteers are absolutely vital to the delivery of our adaptive surf sessions.

Who can be an in-water volunteer?

Anyone who is confident water and who enjoys supporting others can be an in-water volunteer for Inclusive Surfing Scotland. You do not have to be a surfer to volunteer with us!

Due to the nature of the surfers we work with, this is considered ‘regulated work’ and volunteers with need to complete a PVG check. Don’t worry though we’ll help you right through this process!

What in-water volunteers do...

Volunteers main role is to help push our surfers into waves and catch them in the shallows whilst providing encouragement throughout.

In some sessions volunteers will be asked to assist surfers getting to the water’s edge by pushing a beach wheelchair, aiding transfers from wheelchair to board (and vice versa) and also carrying surfboards to the water edge.

Training

Inclusive Surfing Scotland provides full training to all in-water volunteers. Training consists of two parts: an
online or in-person induction and in-water training.

Why volunteer with us?

By volunteers with Inclusive Surfing Scotland you have a chance to help make surfing accessible to everyone! Getting into the water and helping others can provide huge physical and mental health benefits to our volunteers. It’s also a great way to meet likeminded people. We also run volunteer only surf sessions to boost your own confidence in the surf!

Other volunteer roles

For those who don’t want to get in the water but would still like to help out, why not volunteer as a photographer or videographer? Or consider fundraising for us to help make surfing accessible to everyone.
