information SERVICE DETAILS

It's been a difficult year all round - but we are very excited to be going back to in-person rehearsals this September! We will be following all the guidelines for performing arts set out by the Scottish Government, as well as those of our venues - if you want any more info about our rehearsal process then please get in touch.

Up-beat, fast-paced, auditioned Soul & Gospel group in the heart of Edinburgh! We sing 4-5 part harmonies which are taught by ear, with a range of music from old-school gospel, to soul, R&B, Motown, neo-soul, and contemporary tunes - song which kick a groove and pack a punch.

We love performing - and host our own shows as well as performing at events around Scotland! We've hosted shows in The Queens Hall, La Belle Angele, The Assembly Roxy, and have also performed in The Usher Hall (Colours Classical), Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, Brewhemia, Edinburgh Festival Fringe Launch Party, Kelburn Garden Party, Edinburgh's Christmas Light Night, Royal Highland Show, LGBT Health & Wellbeing Celebration - and we've also recorded for The War & Treaty, The Lutras, SHY & DRS and have appeared on STV!

We work hard but we also have a lot of fun doing what we do, and are generally a very social bunch - so you're bound to make new friends as well as making awesome music.

There is an audition to join this choir, but we teach all music by ear so there’s no need to read music. We love performing – in the last year we’ve performed in the Roxy Assembly, appeared on STV, PKD Festival, hosted a concert to support the Child Brain Injury Trust – and we loved singing at the Royal Highland Show in June! Listen out for us singing around the city in the months to come!

How to join us...

You can come along to a rehearsal with us for free to see who we are and what we do - and if you enjoy the session we will ask you to stay behind for an audition.

You don't have to be able to read music to join this choir as we teach everything by ear (we believe you don't have to be able to read dots to have good musicality and a great voice!) but we are expecting our singers to be confident in their voice, and blend with our soulful sound. We have a lot of soloists for our own concerts, so we're looking for people who will be happy to step up for solos as well as being a great voice for the choir.

We also expect a good level of commitment as we learn at a decent pace and perform frequently.

The auditions are in front of Kat (Choir MD) & Adam (Assistant MD), and we’ll ask you to sing back some notes from the piano to hear your pitching and range, and then ask you to sing one verse & chorus, unaccompanied, from any song you like. Remember that we’re looking for soul & gospel singers – so choose something which both shows off your voice, and your soul & gospel vibe! We’re not scary at all (promise!) and you can get in touch with any questions or to book your place either by the contact form below or by email: kat@thephoenixchoir.com

Subscription - £8/week (£7/week for full term payment)
