We are the Gambling Education Hub, a Fast Forward programme that exists to support young people’s health and wellbeing by promoting gambling education and prevention across Scotland.

We do this through offering free training, consultancy and resources to organisations working with children, young people and families. Our programme is in partnership with GambleAware.

The mission of the Hub is to make it possible for every young person in Scotland to have access to gambling education and prevention opportunities.

This programme adopts a training the trainers’ approach, while developing resources that professionals can use in a range of education and health settings. We offer free CPD sessions, consultancy and resources. We also support youth groups across Scotland through our Small Action Fund, to enable youth workers and young people to transform their ideas into action and create their own local gambling education project.

OUR TRAINING

The Hub provides free training sessions on youth gambling and gambling harms.

Our training sessions are open to practitioners who engage with young people under the age of 25 and/or with parents and carers, across a variety of health and education settings.

Each CPD session supports participants to:

- Increase their awareness regarding gambling and its impact on young people’s health and wellbeing;
- Better understand what disordered gambling is and its relationship with other risk-taking behaviours;
- Recognise the signs and consequences of gambling harms;
- Increase their knowledge of resources available;
- Find information on additional support and specialised services;
- Explores ways to include gambling in the range of issues that services already address;
Strengthen their skills and confidence to deliver gambling education and prevention activities.

Our CPD sessions can also cover other gambling-related topics, such as the links between gambling and gaming.

Covid-19 update: please note that currently all our CPD sessions are web-based. Please browse our calendar or get in touch to find out more. Please see https://gamblingeducationhub.fastforward.org.uk/our-training/calendar.

We have created the Gambling Education Toolkit, which supports practitioners to better understand what problem gambling is, its consequences and its relationship with other risk-taking behaviours; it helps them to develop their skills on this topic and increase their confidence in providing support around this issue. The Toolkit is available online for free at https://gamblingeducationhub.fastforward.org.uk/gambling-education-toolkit.

In May 2019 we launched the Scottish Gambling Education Network – find out more and join other practitioners in developing gambling education projects across Scotland! Please see https://gamblingeducationhub.fastforward.org.uk/the-scottish-gambling-education-network.
