information SERVICE DETAILS

Having your say is important. Everyone has the right to say what they think. People who have learning disabilities can now speak up and say what they want in their lives.

Sometimes it is good to speak up with other people who want the same thing as you.

ENABLE Scotland helps people who have learning disabilities get more confidence to speak up. We listen to what people who have learning disabilities want and support them to make changes. You can become a member of ENABLE Scotland and find out more about the Advisory Committee (ACE) and Speak Up - two groups, consisting of people who have learning disabilities, who help direct the organisation's activities.

You can also talk to us about your rights and maybe consider starting a campaign to make changes that matter to you.

ACE is the Advisory Committee of ENABLE Scotland, and is led by people who have learning disabilities who are members of ENABLE Scotland.

There are 12 local ACE groups in Scotland, one in Edinburgh and a national committee that meets four times a year.

The role of ACE is to tell ENABLE Scotland about the things that are important to people who have learning disabilities and to help make changes.

Since it started, ACE groups have worked on subjects such as bullying, public transport, relationships and being part of the community.

ACE is an Active Community of Empowered people who have learning disabilities.

ACE challenges the barriers to an equal society for every person who has a learning disability across Scotland.

A stands for Active - ACE members take action to make things better for people who have learning disabilities.

C stands for Community - This because ACE is about bringing people together.

E stands for Empowered - Empowered means having the chance to speak up about things that matter to you.

To become an Enable Scotland member, please see https://www.enable.org.uk/get-involved/membership/member-area/sign-up-to-be-a-member.
