information SERVICE DETAILS

At Broomhouse we provide support to people experiencing homelessness in Edinburgh. We provide accommodation for people age 16+ and our support is 24 hour.

The Broomhouse team are here to support people through their experience of homelessness, to enable them to find permanent accommodation and to help them find the confidence in themselves to live independently. We use the approach of Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE). This is about helping people to overcome tough life experiences through relationship-based support. We understand everyone has had different experiences and we aim to help them build resilience and self-worth.

Homelessness is about more than not having a home. Everyone we work with has a unique journey through this experience and we walk alongside them each step of the way.

We support young people in gaining the confidence and skills to live independently within the community, ensuring support packages are in place.

Our staff are available 24/7 to provide help with independent living skills for example, cooking, cleaning, gate keeping, budgeting, paying bills, filling in forms, employability, emotional support and accompanying to professional meetings.

The accommodation comprises of five shared flats with three bedrooms each, with a communal lounge, shared bathroom and a kitchen.

Support is provided either within the service or through referrals to other agencies, this could include housing options advice, developing independent living, assisting with communication needs, improving physical & mental health, addressing any substance misuse problems, income/debt advice, legal issues, utilising social networks and sourcing employment or training opportunities.

The aim of the service is to provide a safe living environment for service users during their transition from homelessness to permanent long term accommodation.

All referrals come from The City of Edinburgh Councils, Hostels and Temporary Accommodation Service.
