The EVOC Red Book

The online directory to find third sector Organisations, and their services across Edinburgh

Only services that are currently available during COVID-19 are listed in the directory.

In line with Government advice, most groups and organisations in the city have had to take the unfortunate decision to suspend face to face and group work activities. Please telephone or email the contacts listed for the group or organisation if you are interested in their work to check what alternative arrangements might be available.

Covid-19 UPDATE...

Mediation and Support – we will endeavour to maintain contact with the young people and families we are currently working with, not least because we recognise in these challenging times that family tensions could easily increase. Please be assured that all clients have now been contacted and offered remote support and ongoing mediation via telephone, text, whatsapp, email, etc. Where possible, we have taken on board people’s individual preferences and will offer support in this way for the time being.

**Unfortunately we are not in a position to take any new referrals at this time**

Amber Mediation and Support (age 14-24)

We work across Edinburgh and East Lothian providing mediation and support to families with teenagers and young adults. Our personal advisers offer individual support to everyone involved, and our mediators work with families to find a positive way forward that everyone agrees on.

We help people resolve problems together

Cyrenians 'Amber' model describes a dual approach to helping young people and their families overcome conflict and other destructive behaviour patterns.

Our team includes both specialist mediators and trained family outreach workers who - from one case to the next - might work together or independently of one another to provide a tailor made service for each client.

Mediation is where people involved in conflict get help from a neutral third party to resolve their problems together. The mediator never takes sides or imposes solutions, but helps participants reach an agreement and move forward. Mediation improves communication, builds on common ground and is a proven way to resolve conflicts.

Meanwhile the family outreach workers provide one-to-one support to individuals, focusing on understanding how relationships work, how to achieve life-goals and anger management. They can help to identify additional support needs and signpost clients on to other services in the community where appropriate.

We ensure that when arguments and breakdowns occur, people have the skills and confidence to manage them assertively and with kindness. Our mediation work has helped thousands of people and we are now the largest and most well-established mediation service in Scotland.

Who can benefit from our service?

Families struggling to cope with challenges around adolescence.
