About the John Muir Trust:

The John Muir Trust is the leading wild land charity in the UK. We love wild places, and are dedicated to protecting and improving them for people and wildlife. Over 10,000 members support us in our work.

The John Muir Trust is a UK conservation charity dedicated to protecting wild places. We own and care for some of the UK's finest wild landscapes including Ben Nevis, Schiehallion, Sandwood Bay, Quinag in Assynt, part of the Cuillin on Skye and 3,000 acres on the remote Knoydart peninsula.

Founded in 1983, the trust takes its inspiration from John Muir (1838-1914), the Scots-born founder of the modern conservation movement. Like Muir, the trust believes in protecting wild land for its own sake – and because we believe wild places are essential for people and wildlife.

We work hard on the properties we own, and through partnerships with others, to restore and protect habitats, bring back lost species and help nature flourish. We do litter picks, beach cleans, footpath maintenance, and other key tasks that help our wild places. We're guided in this work by our wild land management standards.

The trust gives wild land a voice. Following Muir’s example, we defend wild land when it comes under threat, and we campaign for its long-term legal protection.

We also educate people through our John Muir Award, an educational initiative that encourages everyone to connect with, enjoy and care for wild places.

You can find out more about us at the Wild Space visitor centre, which sits under our head office in the heart of Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire. Come and visit us soon.
